Interview by Brent Meyer, President of SafeMoney.com
In this Spotlight Series interview, Brent Meyer, Founder of SafeMoney.com, speaks with Frank Passmore, founder of Certified Planners Group, LLC, about his faith-based approach to retirement planning. With nearly 30 years of experience and over 2,000 families served, Frank shares how he helps retirees and pre-retirees reduce market risk, plan for long-term care needs, and create lasting income—while staying true to his core values of trust, transparency, and prayerful guidance.
Brent Meyer: Frank, thank you for joining us today. To start, can you tell us a little about your background and how you got into retirement planning?
Frank Passmore: Thanks for having me, Brent. I’ve been in this business for 29 years, and during that time, I’ve had the privilege of working with more than 2,000 families. I got into retirement planning because I saw too many people taking too much market risk without realizing the long-term consequences. I felt called to help retirees find better, safer ways to protect their savings and create income for life. Our firm, Certified Planners Group, LLC, was built around that mission.
Brent Meyer: That’s a strong foundation. How would you describe your approach to retirement planning?
Frank Passmore: It’s all about protecting against risk. My goal is to design retirement plans that reduce exposure to market volatility, plan against outliving one’s assets, and prepare for long-term care needs without forcing people to buy expensive LTC insurance. I also emphasize income replacement strategies—especially for spouses—so families are financially protected no matter what life brings.
Brent Meyer: That kind of protection-focused mindset really aligns with what we emphasize here at SafeMoney.com. Would you say your faith influences your work?
Frank Passmore: Absolutely. We’re a faith-based practice, and we approach every plan through prayer and integrity. That guidance helps me stay grounded, and it reassures clients that they’re working with someone who values more than just numbers. I consider this work a calling, not just a career.
Brent Meyer: Many people struggle to find a trustworthy advisor. What should they look for, in your opinion?
Frank Passmore: I always tell people: know who you’re working with. Check their background. I’ve never had a single complaint with any State Department of Insurance, the Better Business Bureau, the National Association of Certified Financial Fiduciaries, or the National Association of Certified Estate Planners. That kind of record isn’t common, and it matters. Integrity and transparency are non-negotiables in this business.
Brent Meyer: Staying current is a key part of providing value. How do you stay up to date with industry trends?
Frank Passmore: I make continuing education a priority. I complete the required CE courses for the state and my designations through the National Association of Certified Financial Fiduciaries. I also attend monthly product training sessions to stay on top of innovations in the marketplace, especially in income planning and protection products.
Brent Meyer: Let’s talk strategy. What are some of the financial solutions you’re currently using with clients?
Frank Passmore: One that stands out is a 5-year term strategy offering up to 63% of S&P 500 performance with a base rate of 5.05% per year—but with no market exposure, no annual fees, and no rider fees. That kind of growth potential combined with principal protection is very appealing, especially now. I also use guaranteed income products tailored to each client’s situation. Every recommendation starts with a conversation about goals, not products.
Brent Meyer: That leads nicely into my next question. How do you help clients make informed financial decisions?
Frank Passmore: Education is at the heart of what I do. I don’t “sell”—I give clients the information they need to make an informed, confident choice. That includes a weekly newsletter, no-cost annual reviews, and personalized consultations where we go through everything in detail. I want clients to feel like they’re part of the process, not just being told what to do.
Brent Meyer: With 29 years in the business, do you ever think about retirement yourself?
Frank Passmore: [Laughs] Honestly? No. I’ve been blessed to help so many families over the years, and I love what I do. When you love your work, it doesn’t feel like work. I don’t have a retirement year planned—I’ll keep going as long as I’m able to serve and make a difference.
Brent Meyer: That’s inspiring, Frank. Before we wrap up, what’s the one thing you want people to remember when they think about retirement planning?
Frank Passmore: I’d say this: retirement isn’t just about numbers—it’s about peace of mind. Protecting what you’ve worked for, ensuring your loved ones are taken care of, and having a plan for life’s uncertainties is more valuable than chasing returns. Work with someone who listens, educates, and truly cares.
Final Thoughts
Brent Meyer: Any last words of advice for retirees or those preparing for retirement?
Frank Passmore: Retirement isn’t just about numbers—it’s about peace of mind. Make sure your advisor listens, educates, and builds a plan that reflects your values. Protect what you’ve worked for, and make every decision with confidence and clarity.
